Impact of IT on individuals
The way we spend our leisure time
Technology allows us to spend our time however we choose to, people can do whatever they choose to online. Things like reading a book or watching a film can all be done through a device and not require us to leave the comfort of our home. Many people see this as a positive because it is often cheaper and less stressful than going out. For people who are into gaming this is often a way for them to relax and have fun and connect with others who have similar interests all over the world and also a way to escape day to day life. Others who are passionate for art can share their artwork online and publish it for others to see and give feedback on. However, it isn’t all positive. As more and more people turn to technology to spend their free time this creates a higher risk of people losing their social abilities. People will stop having face to face interactions as they turn to phone calls and group calls, people who work from home will become less productive.
The way we communicate
Communication in today’s society has become extremely easy as more and more technologies are released to help us talk to people across the globe. New apps and new methods of communication are always improving as people are needing to communicate across the globe for work. Facetime, group calls, voice notes are all a common thing now for society and they provide us with easy communication. In the past having to communicate with a loved one overseas would often take months and nowadays it can be done within seconds, which clearly shows how society has improved in that aspect. However, this also increases the risk of online crimes as scammers often use phone calls and emails to target people for their money. Furthermore, online communication can also increase the risk of cyberbullying and expose the younger generation onto content that they shouldn’t see.
The way we learn and source information
Technology has allowed us to source information faster than ever, with everything anyone needs all being a search away. It lets kids have a way to learn new things and watch videos to help with education. People who don’t have access to school or live too far away and have to be home schooled find technology an extremely helpful tool as they can’t learn otherwise. Furthermore, apps like YouTube help us find videos for anything and everything we need. For people who are far from their home country it lets them keep in touch with what’s happening back home and watch the news live through just their smartphone. Moreover, technology can be used as a daily tool to help us with everything, the small questions we have to ask or the small DIY that we have to do at home, technology will support us with almost everything.
Our health and the amount of exercise we do
New technology has created health apps that can track our steps through just our smartphones. For more accurate results people will purchase a smartwatch which can monitor more than a smartwatch. They can monitor things like steps, heart rates, sleep, calories and workouts. Furthermore, it gives people access to online workout videos and tutorials for beginners, making it more easy for people to stay at home and keep fit. People also attend virtual classes for things like Yoga or dance making it more beneficial for those who want to stay at home. However, people can become too reliant on the internet for information about their health and not actually go see professionals which could cause risk to illnesses or even risk their life. Additionally, not all information online can be trusted and it is best to go see a professional about health problems.
